Diets come and go – it’s a fact of life. What might be hot one minute, certainly isn’t necessarily going to be several weeks later.
However, something that distinguishes the best from all of the others that are around is simplicity. In other words, if a diet appears simple and relies on proven science, there’s a very good chance that it is going to survive the test of time.
As you may have gathered, the Day-Off Diet seems to fall into this “simple” category. Not only that, but it has been put together by one of the biggest names when it comes to healthy living – Dr. Oz. Therefore, we were pretty captivated when we heard all about his diet. We’ll now take an in-depth look at the formula to see if it really could help you lose those excess pounds.
In some ways, the Day-Off Diet is very unique. Most diets will make you cut out all of your favorite foods, which shouldn’t be a surprise when you consider how many calories they contain.
As we all know, the more calories you consume, the more weight you are going to put on.
Instead of completely eradicating these “bad” foods, you will cut them down to reasonable measures. Dr. Oz has decided that the best way to do this is to only consume them on one day of the week.
To put this into perspective, just 1/7 of your week will be spent eating your favorite foods. Immediately, you are slashing the amount of calories you consume.
Rather than frequently eating these foods through the course of the week, you are instead just turning to them once. Over the course of the week, the total amount of calories you consume falls rapidly.
Of course, it’s not all about just sticking to this “one day off” rule. As well as this, Dr. Oz has put together some rigid guidelines for all six of the other days. You’ll be able to still eat plenty, but eat plenty of the right foods which means that it is much harder to pile the weight on.
The thing that interested us the most about this diet was how it could apply to people for multiple reasons.
First and foremost, the fact that you are able to have a day off and eat what you like is obviously going to appeal to many. In our eyes, if you can’t quite face cutting out all of your favorite sugary snacks, this is the ideal way to do it.
However, there’s probably a less obvious reason as well. As part of the diet, Dr. Oz has created countless meal plans that can be used. In other words, the “thinking” and “creativity” has immediately been removed from this diet.
You don’t have to scratch your head and wonder what you should be eating, it’s all laid out in black and white.
While it seems as though the Day-Off Diet will appeal to a lot of people, there are certainly some groups that it won’t be appropriate for.
Like pretty much every diet that’s ever been invented, there is most definitely an element of willpower surrounding this diet. Sure, you can eat what you want one day per week, but for the rest of the time you still have to commit to eating healthily.
As you are permitted a day off, you could argue that you don’t need to be quite as mentally strong as you do for other diets. Nevertheless, it’s worth putting out there – you will need to still commit to the principles of the diet for six days per week.
On the subject of suitability, it’s worth adding a couple of points about exercise and snacking.
Fortunately, exercise is by no means essential. Like with any diet, it’s much better if you do decide to try and work out, but the diet isn’t going to succeed or fail based on how many hours you pound at the gym.
If you want to get even more out of it, then it’s certainly going to help you.
As for snacking, the beauty about the Day-Off Diet is that it is not completely rigid. In other words, you can eat when you want.
The big difference is what you are eating. Instead of turning for candy or any of the other traditional classics, you’ll be reaching for seeds, nuts and other foods that boast fantastic amounts of energy but won’t contribute to your waistline.
The last paragraph leads on perfectly – this diet will only work if you put the effort in. If you aren’t able to live the “good life” for six days per week, you will not reap the results.
If you do have at least some mental strength, the benefits are there for all to see. First and foremost, there is the Dr. Oz factor. The very fact that he has put his name to this and researched it for the past three years pretty much confirms to us that it will work.
For those of you looking for slightly more evidence, we can turn to scientific studies though. Prior to launching the diet, Dr. Oz conducted a test across thousands of people.
The beauty about this test was that it focused on people who had so many different aims. Some wanted a quick-fix, while others wanted a sustainable option that would help them gradually lose the excess pounds.
In all cases, the results were hugely impressive. For example, in the first week the average amount of weight lost amongst participants was 7 lbs. This balanced out at around 2 lbs per week afterwards, but over time it was proven that significant figures could be slashed from your waistline.
The diet is freely available online and the majority of the meals which are covered in it are affordable and most definitely appropriate to anyone who is looking to tackle their weight on a budget.
As we mentioned at the start of this guide, the Day-Off Diet is most definitely very different to other diets that are available. While it does rely on you keeping mentally strong (for at least six days of the week), it does give you rest bite and this could be invaluable for many of us.
What may also prove to be invaluable is the amount of information that is available alongside this diet. Gone are the days of scratching around trying to conjure up a meal plan – they’re all there ready to be used.
For those of us that perhaps lack a little creativity in the kitchen, this again could be crucially important.
